Guo Ru is a sophomore from Phillips Academy Andover. He began learning the violin at the age of six. He currently studies under Prof. Peter Zazofsky at New England Conservatory Preparatory School.

Before coming to the U.S., Guo attended Sydney Conservatorium of Music’s Rising Stars program with a merit scholarship and received the prestigious Licentiate Diploma of Music Australia (LMusA) in violin. He has also studied with Kimberly Fisher, the cofounder of the Philadelphia International Music Festival and Principal Second Violin of the Philadelphia Orchestra, and Prof. Danielle Belen from the University of Michigan.

Guo served as the concertmaster of the 2025 Northeastern District Senior Orchestra and the Principal Second Violin of the Massachusetts All-State Orchestra. He has appeared as a soloist with the Willoughby Symphony Orchestra in Australia and with Orchestra Manhattan at Carnegie Hall. Having won first prizes in numerous music competitions, including the American Protégé Competition with Judge’s Distinction and the New York Young Virtuoso Competition, Guo has been invited to perform in the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Singapore, Japan, Canada, and more. While touring, he performed at diverse venues, including the Royal Academy of Music, the Postojna Caves, the Croatian National Theatre, and Teatro Pacini.

Interested in using music to give back to his community, Guo’s current volunteer work includes teaching children from disadvantaged communities how to play violin at the Youth Development Organization (YDO) and programming classical music at 2MBS Fine Music Sydney radio station. He is also the founder and artistic director of Fanfare Festival Orchestra, a youth-led orchestra aiming to make classical music more accessible through new art forms and performances at cultural events, nursing homes, and public concerts. Being a social justice advocate, Guo also enjoys composing and conducting music to raise environmental awareness and improve mental health.
